Zen Shiatsu

Shiatsu, based in Oriental Medicine, is a healing form of bodywork that taps into the energy that flows through the channels or meridians that run through the body. It helps the body balance itself by re-energising areas of weakness and relaxing tensions.

In Shiatsu, any physical or emotional symptom is evidence that the flow of energy in the body has been disrupted. Shiatsu stimulates the body to re-establish this balance, so that the energy can flow freely and the receiver may confront the root of the problem.  For this reason, there are few disharmonies and discomforts that can't be improved upon through Shiatsu. Those particularly suited are:

  • Neck and shoulder pain and tension

  • Back ache and pain

  • Stress and anxiety

  • Fatigue and low energy levels

  • Insomnia

  • Depression

  • Muscular tension

  • IBS and digestive troubles

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Menstrual & fertility issues, pregnancy and child birth

  • Joint pain

  • Asthma and breathing difficulties

A treatment takes place on a futon with the receiver fully clothed. Shiatsu can involve acupressure, joint mobilizations, stretches,  penetrative pressure and other techniques to open up the body, induce a sense of  deep relaxation and facilitate healing and transformation on physical, mental, emotional  and spiritual levels. Shiatsu is a holistic therapy.  It celebrates and reveals that which is strong and healthy within us;  supporting the nervous system's ability to self-regulate and the natural wisdom of the body to move towards healing.
